Spectre Update

Hello, and welcome to March!

In case you weren't aware, dear readers, I am in the process of creating, writing, and (eventually) producing my own audio drama. In the event that you're not familiar with the term, an audio drama is a fictional podcast or digital radio play. You might hear it referred to as audio fiction as well, but the more widely used terminology is "audio drama" or "audiodrama." Ultimately, it's just a way for a story to be told specifically in an audio format. You hear different characters (usually), you hear sound effects, and you're immersed into a world simply by way of your ears.

I've always struggled with the visual aspect of writing. I myself am aphantasic (the inability to visualize mental imagery or "blind imagination"), so describing something using prose is incredibly difficult. My mind simply doesn't process imagination the same way that a neurotypical person does, so I needed to find a way to still be creative and tell stories in a medium that best suits my abilities and talents.

Enter the audio drama.

Before I started to work on my Master's, I was working on transitioning what I had for the novelization of my work in progress (WIP), Spectre. Life happens, though, and my creative work was put on hold for the work I was doing to elevate myself in my career. After I received my diploma in December, I took some time off to mentally chill out (y'all, getting a Master's while working full time is hard and time-consuming) and began dipping my toes back into the water of creativity in January of this year.

I joined an online writing community, wrote at least 750 words every day over the course of the month of January, began participating in a weekly fiction-writing exercise, and I slowly chipped away at the blockages that have been preventing me from really diving into the Spectre story. After a month of work, I'm happy to say I've made significant progress, and this post is to let you all know what's going on and what my path to release is going to be.

  • The first season is 95% outlined. I just need to outline a few scenes throughout the 10 planned episodes, and then the outline will be done. That's crazy to me.

  • Episodes 1-4 have been written and are pending edits. This is also crazy to me.

  • Social media handles have been secured, and you can find the show on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube under the username @spectrepod.

  • Episodes 5-10 will be written by May 31st, 2021.

  • All episodes will be fully edited and finalized by July 31st, 2021.

  • The project will be fully cast, and the first read-through will be completed by August 31st, 2021.

  • Recording for at least the first 4 episodes will be completed by November 30th, 2021.
  • Audio engineering for at least the first 4 episodes will be completed by December 31st, 2021.

  • The first episode will be released in early January (specific date is TBD) of 2022, with the rest of the first season (episodes 2-9) will be released on a bi-monthly (once every other week) schedule.
All of this is absolutely nuts. I'm really proud of myself for getting this far and not giving up. It's actually looking like this thing is actually going to happen. Y'all. I have been writing some form of this story since middle school, and the audio drama format is finally opening doors for me that were previously closed.

I'm so excited. I hope you'll follow along with me and my progress, and I'll do my best to keep you all apprised of when I meet (or miss) milestones.

This is going to be a really fun adventure.

"Yellow List"

Exercise #83 : "Yellow List" What things are yellow? Make a list. At the end of the five minutes, note the three you find most curious. Ah, yellow. One of my least favorite colors. I mean, it's nice and all, but there are so many versions of this color that are simply eye-raping. Anyways, on with the list. Things That Are Yellow: bananas school buses yellow bell pepper tennis balls Post Shredded Wheat boxes (see right) lemons canaries the middle traffic light traffic lines the sun cheddar cheese hay corn butter cabs #2 pencils grapefruit raincoats (stereotypical ones, anyway) bees squash yellow jackets (I HATE those things!) the yolk of an egg scrambled eggs or an omelet peanut M&Ms the Simpsons various flowers rubber duckie etc... So that's my list of yellow things! :) The most curious? Well... I'll go with... but none of those are curious! That's silly. Check back later today for my 5th Character Profile on Nolan Ha
