Aaaaand 1,2,3, GO!
Niamh shoved her foot down on the gas pedal, darting in and out of traffic and putting herself and least a dozen of other people in danger. The furrowed brows, middle fingers, and curses that were slung her way slid off of the boot of her car and splatted, powerless, on the pavement behind her. None of that mattered. The coastline on the horizon was her destination, and if the other cars on the road knew her purpose they'd all get the hell out of her way.
From a distance, the water looked calm, placid even. But she had seen all the signs: the color of the sky, the barometric pressure, the glowing orb that stopped by to say hello in her kitchen. The question that remained was if she had noticed too late.
When she pulled up to the beach parking lot, the sky had transformed from a slight bluish-gray to a charcoal soup, and the sea, once calm, was now churning with turbulence. To the layman, these might be signs of an oncoming storm, but to Niamh, it was much, much more. And very, very dangerous.
Niamh sprinted up a hill to the nearest cliffside, the rocky beach lying in wait below her. Extending her hand toward the rolling clouds overhead, she closed her eyes and focused her mind's eye on the place just above the clouds where the monster was waking. The creature roared in protest as the clouds began to disperse, and within moments the supposed storm had completely dissipated.
She sighed as she lowered her hand and opened her eyes to a serene ocean and clear sky. This time had been easy, but the next? No one knew for sure.
Time and tide wait for no man. But for a woman they might.
THE END
Ooh, this one was a *struggle* today. I admittedly am not having a great mental health day, so that played into the overall creation and execution of the story, but I'm proud of myself for writing through the brain fog and lack of motivation.
Did you write today? Feel free to share in the comments!
Peace.
Stef.
