Exercise #159 : Salesmen Arguing About Yellow Doughnuts

Two salesmen are arguing about some yellow donuts. Write the scene using dialogue and incorporating the following:

"this will set your hair on fire"
yellow donuts
he said, slowly stroking his chin
he picked up the pen and pointed
"oh, no, no, no, no, no"

1,2,3, GO!

Ok. I'm going to be a big old ball of complaining flesh today. I've been sitting at my computer, attempting to write this exercise, but nothing is coming to me. Not even anything that I would deem horrendous writing.

This is what I feel like right now.
I hate this exercise!

Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad exercise, and, given the right frame of mind, I'd probably have a lot of fun with it. But for some reason I simply have absolutely nothing going on today in the form of literary formation.

So as a result, I'm going to bid this exercise adieu until a later date when I feel less like hitting my computer screen with a meat tenderizer.

If anyone did this one or is going to do this one, please post it in the comment section for others to read. You don't have to, of course, but I would feel better about life... and we all want Stefers to feel good about life, don't we??

Don't we?

"The month is closing out, Lenny. One of us is getting that promotion." Frank leaned back in his chair and turned to look at Lenny in the cubical behind him.

"Have you sold any of the yellow donuts?" Lenny asked.

"Yellow donuts? No, of course not."

"Then I wouldn't be so sure about that promotion, Frank."

"I thought that money was going towards next months sales. Those things are still in their prototype stage!" Frank spun his chair all the way around and planted his feet.

"And that's what we're supposed to be selling. Their concept," [Lenny] picked up [a] pen and pointed to the sales sheet pinned to his cubical wall.

"That's ridiculous! Who's going to buy yellow donuts?! Especially yellow donuts they can't see or taste?"

Lenny stared at Frank. Then stared a minute longer.
"You know," he said, slowly stroking his chin, "I think you're on to something there. Of course they want to see and taste the donuts. So, lets make them!"

"Oh, no, no, no, no, no. You know what corporate would do if they found out!" Frank, usually into scheming around his company, fidgeted in his chair, actually uncomfortable with the idea.

Lenny stood up with sudden excitement and enlightenment,"Yes! They find out, fire us, and leave us to open our own yellow donut shop! Who wants to imagine a prototype when they can have the real thing?"

Frank knew Lenny was right, but was getting fired really the best way to make a career move? He watched Lenny pull a salve out of his desk drawer. He looked happy, on top of the world, running the liquid through his scalp, presumably thinking about their business endeavors.

Lenny saw Frank watching.
"This will set your hair on fire," he grinned.

"Yellow List"

Exercise #83 : "Yellow List" What things are yellow? Make a list. At the end of the five minutes, note the three you find most curious. Ah, yellow. One of my least favorite colors. I mean, it's nice and all, but there are so many versions of this color that are simply eye-raping. Anyways, on with the list. Things That Are Yellow: bananas school buses yellow bell pepper tennis balls Post Shredded Wheat boxes (see right) lemons canaries the middle traffic light traffic lines the sun cheddar cheese hay corn butter cabs #2 pencils grapefruit raincoats (stereotypical ones, anyway) bees squash yellow jackets (I HATE those things!) the yolk of an egg scrambled eggs or an omelet peanut M&Ms the Simpsons various flowers rubber duckie etc... So that's my list of yellow things! :) The most curious? Well... I'll go with... but none of those are curious! That's silly. Check back later today for my 5th Character Profile on Nolan Ha
