Exercise #178 : Only the Top Ten

June 27 "Only the Top Ten Nouns"
According to Oxford University Press researchers (view the article HERE) the top 10 nouns in the English language are:
  1. Time
  2. Person
  3. Year
  4. Way
  5. Day
  6. Thing
  7. Man
  8. World
  9. Life
  10. Hand
The exercise is this: write something --- anything -- that incorporates these and only these 10 nouns.

1,2,3, GO!!!
Ok, folks... I'm going to need a little bit of time on this one. So I'm going to post this early in the morning and then work through this throughout the day, posting my response as an update at the bottom of this post sometime in the evening.

If you'd like to do the same, go for it!

The great thing is that, even though we're all using the same prompt, we're all going to come up with starkly different things. Exciting, eh??

So, go! Write!

You're pulling out your pen and paper now, aren't you?

Aren't you??
Good luck, and have fun!

this MAN,
with my LIFE in his HAND;
there's no TIME in the DAY,
or the YEAR,
for this THING to go my WAY.

He was my WORLD.

When life gives a person a bad hand, even if it lasts a year, man should still love his world, appreciate his things, and treasure his time with his beloved, and that way he'll enjoy every day.

Phew! That was extremely hard, but I guess that means the exercise did its job. I'm not fond of the "even if it lasts a year" part, though, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to put year. Excited to see what you come up with!
What person doesn't yearn for more time? A year more, a day, even? If only there were a way for the hand of man to grasp this fleeting life, as if time were a solid thing, as if the world wasn't spinning.

This was tough!

But, here's the thing:
A day of time in a person's hand is the way
to live a year of life in man's world.

Here's the thing:
A day in the life of a person can be the path way to live a year of time in the hand of the world of man.

The man who has no time, no person to cuddle throughout the year, not a thing to show for, lost his way, doesn't know the time of day...thinks this world, life, lends no helping hand.

This should be easy enough, shouldn't it?

What things are purple? Make a list.

You know, you don't really notice it, but purple appears quite frequently in nature. When I think nature, my mind immediately imagines greens, browns, and generally all kinds of neutral colors, but purple is everywhere. It's pretty awesome.

Great, huh? I don't remember when I was first introduced to this all-sorts-of-wonderful song, but I'm pretty sure it was care of my Mom. She definitely has provided quite a bit of the humor in my life, and I'm sure she's one of the big reasons…

"Yellow List"

Exercise #83 : "Yellow List"
What things are yellow? Make a list. At the end of the five minutes, note the three you find most curious.
Ah, yellow. One of my least favorite colors. I mean, it's nice and all, but there are so many versions of this color that are simply eye-raping. Anyways, on with the list.

Well... I'll go with... but none of those are curious! That's silly.
